Sonya Ki Tomlinson Biography:
Namaste
Sonya Ki Tomlinson, American artist, writer, poet was born January 21, 1948 in Queens, NY of Jamaican, West Indian parents. Sonya Ki and her four siblings enjoyed an adventurous, imaginative childhood. Surrounded by aging colonial mansions, post WWII housing projects, and New York's East River, there was always something to explore.
Sonya Ki began painting and composing poetry in her early twenties and after college she exhibited her artwork and participated in poetry readings throughout the New York area. She is currently an artist at the Strawbridge Art League and Gallery, Downtown, Melbourne Florida, for over 15 years.
During the birth of her daughter at age 22, she had an amazing out-of-body-experience which catapulted her out of ordinary three dimensional awareness into an astounding, metaphysical reality which she knows survives and surpasses death, misery, joy, materialism and all that is dualistic and worldly. A space of being in which Pure Love, Life and Light exists Eternally. This event inspired her to explore the intriguing inner realms of Self through Yoga, Meditation, Rosicrucianism and other spiritually laden paths. You can read more about this experience in her book, "Sai Rapture", P.17.
In 1990, she began having incredible encounters with Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Sathya Sai Baba is a Universal Teacher, Healer, Visionary and much more. His incredible, paranormal, miracles, teachings and most of all Universal Love are truly breath taking and transformational. Sathya Sai Baba began visiting her in dreams, offering guidance and real counsel. This led to many trips to India and within on an amazing pilgrimage that continues to this day. Sathya Sai Baba became a crucial, vital part of her life as He revealed His tremendous love, omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence.
Sonya Ki's work is a visual and poetic diary of her spiritual journey. She has written three books. The first, "Sai Rapture, The Ecstatic Journey of a Modern Day Gopi" portrays her spiritual journey. The second book, "108 Bhakti Kisses, The Ecstatic Poetry of a Modern Day Gopi" and the third, Saraswati Lotus Pearls are a garland of poems celebrating the divine in everything.
Sonya Ki Tomlinson is a remarkable, inspiring artist and writer whose blossoming spirituality radiates from her poetry and paintings. You will surely fall in love with her and her beautiful, enchanting creative works.

Sai Shiva crystal dream, 2017
34X36 inches, Acrylic.
Shiva Sai Crystal Dream. A while back I had this incredible celestial dream.
“I was discussing singing a bhajan in conjunction with a painting I created of Sathya Sai Baba as Lord Shiva doing the Tandava dance. As the dream progressed I recall being in the lobby of a building waiting for the elevator. The elevator door opened and closed quickly before I could get on. As I waited again, a man came over with his wife pushing a baby carriage. The elevator finally came down again. The man got onto the elevator with the baby carriage leaving his wife. I entered the elevator and pushed the elevator button number 6, I asked him which button? I think he said 5 which I pressed. Anyway, the elevator went to 6, and we both got off.
A startling, stunning scene unfolded before us, we were at the top of the world, everywhere beautiful, shimmering snow crested waves danced in a cosmic ocean. The lobby area was a temple with white planks and wharves extending out into a dynamic sea. This endless sea resembled snowy himalaya mountains but was an incredible ocean. As I gazed literally spellbound by the bewitching beauty of it all, I saw an Indian man swimming in the water, he looked like a young Lord Shiva with a bun. He smiled and swam like a dolphin past me. I wanted to swim too but didn't know how deep and cold the water was and had some trepidation.
I strolled onto the planks extending out into this snow sea, and began floating on top of the luminous waves. When, I returned to the temple lobby. The man with the baby carriage was there. A group of children including his child were standing near the edge of the ocean. They wanted to go into the water, but I told them to sit and watch the dancing waves. We all played awhile on the wharf. I looked up and saw three Sages observing me from the temple lobby.
I walked back towards the temple lobby and sat for meditation. It was so sublime filled with spectacular heavenly scenes and lights. When I came out of meditation I approached the three Sages. They were cradling an idol of a deity and performing a ritual. After the ritual, they each tenderly kissed the idol. I was hoping I could kiss it too. The main priest turned to me and smiled. He then took what looked like a rattle or shell and poured vibhuti from it into my hands. At that moment I began waking up.
I wondered about this divine encounter. It was so incredibly vibrant and real. As I got out of my bed and walked into the kitchen the thought suddenly struck me that the snow crested ocean could be the Ganges pouring from Lord Shiva's head!

Squaw loves you dear Little Papoose"
Garden of my Heart. 24X26 inches, 2024
I was feeling kind of depressed by the Israel/Hamas conflict. I decided to create a stunning flower bed, to be close to living things that are beautiful.
In the meditation towards the end, I had a great vision of Sathya Sai Baba. He had his arms behind his back and a kind of curious smile on his face He was inside a White garden altar, very pretty with flowers all over it. I was sitting at the edge tending the flowers it. I had a long veil draping behind my head and Indian clothing on.
Then this vision metamorphed and I saw thousands of people on these curling strips of matter in the starry sky with their hands folded in prayer.
Very lovely.

A SECOND BIRTH ~ Sai Rapture, P.20, by Sonya Ki tomlinson
Immersing myself in mystical exploration, I embraced Eastern philosophy, Yoga and other such disciplines, joining the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC. The following profound spiritual experience happened around this time. I was feeling upset over an incident that had occurred earlier in the day and retired to my room falling into a fitful sleep. As I drifted deeper, I found myself walking outside on a dusty, deserted road. A feeling of impending doom began to surround me. Something dark and sinister loomed. I took off running, yelling to God for help. Looking up at the sky, I beheld what appeared to be a white, dazzling whirlwind forming directly above me.
The whirlwind had millions of eyes, mouths, ears, legs, hands, voices revolving inside its wondrous vortex. Waves of protective energy emanating, I felt myself being lifted up, levitating in mid-air. Then a most peculiar sensation: all the air was being vacuumed out of my body, beginning with my toes and swirling out through the crown of my head. I surmised that I might be dying. Then just as rapidly, a fresh blast of air entered the top of my head and filled my whole body as I gradually floated back down onto the bed. When I woke up from this enigmatic incident, I thought immediately of the biblical description of God in Ezekiel’s Wheel, (Ezekiel 1:1-28).
Lord Vishnu and our Lady of the Cosmos. 2016
30X48 inches
Lord Vishnu and the Egyptian Goddess Nuit are the central figures in this painting. Lord Vishnu is part of the Hindu trinity of Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma. He embodies the role of preserver and energizer of the Universe. He also has a part as creator since Brahma the creator emerged from His navel. The sun energy is also associated with Lord Vishnu.
The Goddess Nuit has dominion over the Cosmos and is usually seen stretched across the night sky, Her body pregnant with stars and planets. She closely parallels the Shakti/Maya principle of Hinduism. Together they form a blazing duo of the creative forces of the Universe.

The Power of His Name
Waiting in the garden 2018
36 x 34 inches
This painting was in response to a poem I composed:
Waiting in the Garden
Swami
Will you come tonight?
the gold moon hangs
full and low
a lantern beaming between
dark pine branches
I wait with a gardenia blossom
in my hand and the fragrance
of night blooming jasmine
in my hair
O Lotus eyed Lord
bhajans fall like petals
from my lips
Console us with the
sound of Your dancing ankle bells
Frogs are croaking in the garden
fairy solar lamps light a fragrant path
for you to walk upon
Frightful sounds of the world fade
away with holy hymns as the
mist sweetly parts
I wait like Radha waited for her
Krishna and Mira Bai too
only the blush of Your Love
sustains us
Perfume the world with your
Sacred Presence
Sai Krishna
He who sent me.
